THE PROJECT:
The web portal TEXT SEMIOTICS is an open and voluntary project of the International Association of Researchers in Textual Semiotics. The site was conceived and launched on February 26, 2001 by Rossitza Kyheng. The aim of this portal is to specify the domain of Textual Semiotics on the web by providing access to a large inventory of online resources, that increases every day. To our great satisfaction, the popularity of the site and its referencing by search engines marked the beginning of a new web-category, the textual semiotics.
The object "text" in semiotics is often subjected to a very broad vision projected on any cultural object obeying to any symbolic interpretation. In spite of this universal "textualization", the project TEXT SEMIOTICS modestly hold with the verbal text. Nevertheless the domain remains very extensive and ambiguous: on the one hand, it is difficult to admit a line of demarcation between Textual Semiotics and other arts and sciences of the text, starting with the oldest, Rhetoric, until the most recent, Corpus Linguistics; on the other hand, semantic, pragmatic and morpho-syntaxic studies of texts do not succeed in solving their inevitable internal fluctuations. These eternal misunderstandings only increase the embarrassment of choice among digital publications. Without making a least discrimination between sciences and approaches, we retained three basic criteria: that the digital document aims at the verbal text from the semiotic point of view, or, at least, that it represents an important theoretical contribution for the textual studies.
In spite of our efforts, some significant documents can remain dissimulated in the great mass of dynamic publications. By indicating those to us you become a co-creator of the large web-domain of textual semiotics.
We welcome all of your comments and suggestions.
